This year’s Virgin Money London Marathon had a colourful selection of runners from the club; James Head was the first from the club to run along The Mall and finished in 2:56:11. James’ pacing was impeccable and his 1:28 half way time shows this. Stuart Bird trained as best he could this winter and completed the famous event in 3:34:28. Annabel Roberts was given race number 666 but due to a respiratory infection that took hold, she was unable to make the trip to London. That meant the club’s fem...

New member Lesley Allaway made waves in the Draycote Water 10km by crossing the finish line in 61:52 minutes. This is a new PB for the emerging talent. Her placing was 164th from a competitive field.

Over the shorter distances, the Tewkesbury Run Club have been displaying great form with Carol Cowley taking 1st place female at Tewkesbury Parkrun with 24:21 mins; Kevin Emmerson and Wes Reid were on her tail over the four-lap challenge. Birthday boy Barry O'Driscoll timing 28:11 mins over the Kings...

The Manchester Marathon was again the place for the big stars; 12 months after Shona Crombie-Hicks finished a few seconds outside the club’s all-time female record, Owen Grant produced a run that becomes the first sub 2:50 hrs for Tewkesbury since 2013. Although not his first marathon, it was his first purely serious attempt at the distance. Owen’s first 20 miles were ran with precision before the last 10k and the leg muscles started to protest. His official time was 2:49:39.

The club’s AGM staged the presentation of a plethora of awards for great achievements during 2018.

Two of the most exciting was the announcement of the ‘Improver of the Year’ award and ‘Performance of the Year’ award winners. These awards are selected by the committee (and exclude the committee) after reviewing the club’s runners during their year.

With the 2017 ‘Improver of the Year’ award going to Chris Duckworth, he could have caused a stir with an unpresented repeat win in 2018 after an amazin...

It’s only January and here’s an early contender for Performance of the Year.

Sharon Lockley took on an international field of runners in India over a 10km distance. Not only did Sharon smash through her age-group competition, she went on to win the women’s race overall!

Many of us recall Sharon’s progress last year with Tewkesbury Running Club – most particularly her mile race in the Gloucestershire track championships in the Prince of Wales stadium where she pulled-up with a loose shoe lace befor...

Splendid conditions greeted runners gathering to start the lung-stretching, leg flexing Broadway Trail runs.

With the marathon runners staring just after 8am, they had to tackle an extended loop through Winchcombe and some quite dramatic Cotswold trails.

Tewkesbury’s chairman Nigel Tillott passed Sudeley Castle and climbed his second substantial climb in great shape before finishing back in Broadway in 15th place in a time of 4hrs, 13 minutes.

The figure 8 marathon measured a generous 26+ miles and...

The Mandy Whittingham Newent 9 featured four runners from the club in its sell-out 300 start line.

Simon Crilly impressed again over the 9km course with 38.22 minutes finishing in 12th place.

Noel Green finished inside the top 100 with 50:12 mins.

Mike Bryce timed 55:39 and Pete Davies ran a creditable 63:16 mins over a course which included some tough undulations.

With Halloween just a few nights away, the Tewkesbury runners have been laying down some rather scary performances this weekend.

Firstly, on Saturday in the ‘as seen on TV’ Snowdonia Marathon, Tewkesbury runners braved some shocking autumn weather – Mother Nature had a restless night and gave freezing temperatures, snow fall and sleet storms to welcome the runners taking on the popular Welsh show piece.

Phillip Howells has ran in artic conditions before – once famously running into a Snow plough!...

Tewkesbury runners have been flocking to the big autumn 1/2 marathons this month: In the majestic Royal Parks Half 13.1 mile race in London, Gary Duxbury donned his running shoes in aid of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Gary gave it his best shot and finished a minute outside of his personal best for the distance in 1:39:20 (hr:min:sec).

Just 2 seconds quicker on the Mediterranean island of Majorca, Mark Parker ran 1:39:18 in the Palma Half Marathon. Mark improved on his Cheltenham effort and...

Love it or hate it, the Cheltenham Half Marathon is the biggest race in the county. Recently, it’s been well organized and the 2018 instalment was a success for the team behind it with quality facilities, plentiful parking and road closures lined with some excellent support – even when the final 2 miles entered Prestbury Park Racecourse, the support was uplifting with Steel drums and a fully-fledged brass band.

The club had as many as 25 runners taking part in the 13.1 mile route through the icon...
