Paris Marathon

April 17, 2016

Arguably now one of the best marathons in the world, the Paris Marathon was the destination for the Tewkesbury club captain Roy Northcott. And for the Northcott family it was almost a journey too far, firstly with the French air traffic control dispute and more threateningly, an unexpected closure of the M5 to Birmingham airport! As the journey ended, it took longer to reach Birmingham than it did Paris.

Once on French soil, Roy got his game together; starting the event with below par fitness due to a virus during his preparation weeks, Roy knew he was never going to break any records though over the famously ‘fast’ French course he did clock 2 hrs and 2 minutes at the halfway point before easing up and soaking up the atmosphere which included snapping  some interesting selfies of the Paris landmarks – Arche de Triomphe, the Ferris wheel, the Louvre, Hotel de Ville, the Big Rock, Chateau de Vincennes, Place de la Bastille, the Seine and of course, the Eiffel Tower. Crossing the finish line in 4:25:16 Roy certainly made the most of his long weekend in Paris.
