Asics Manchester Marathon

April 9, 2019

The Manchester Marathon was again the place for the big stars; 12 months after Shona Crombie-Hicks finished a few seconds outside the club’s all-time female record, Owen Grant produced a run that becomes the first sub 2:50 hrs for Tewkesbury since 2013. Although not his first marathon, it was his first purely serious attempt at the distance. Owen’s first 20 miles were ran with precision before the last 10k and the leg muscles started to protest. His official time was 2:49:39.

Angie Sadler starred as the FV55 winner with her 3:25 hrs, this is a great time for Angie as the Manchester course certainly produces good times. Angie benefited from local support as her daughter and family are now Greater Manchester based.

Kim Boskett trained well for the event and set-off to crack her marathon PB from her epic run on the infamous Worcester course back in 2014. She ran a quality race and it looked to be going to plan with a sub 2:18 halfway time but she was just 54 seconds short of her PB with 4:37:01 hrs – a fine run indeed though on reflection, she was “frustrated”. However, she certainly showed a lesson on marathon pacing with one of the most impressive second-half splits.

Phillip Howells scored in the MV70 category as 25th place with an impressive 5:31 hr. As with Angie, having not to run up & down hills, over rock and mud means the experienced ultra-runner can roll-out good times.
