This year’s popular Christmas charity race over at Evesham attracted some hardy Tewkesbury runners; the Festive 10km off-road event was held over some very water-logged ground indeed. Originally called ‘Race for Grace’ to raise funds and then supporting myositis research before the 2019 edition supporting the ‘Children with Cancer UK’ charity. The venue was again, from Evesham United FC ground and for most runners, it was a festive affair with many donning seasonal fancy dress.
Regaining his winner’s title from last year, Owen Grant stormed over the energy sapping course. Pleased with his run and equally pleased to feedback that he managed to run the whole route rather than resorting to walking through the many difficult sections – a noteworthy achievement per sae.
Gary Duxbury celebrated winning the V60 category after outrunning his Black Pear Jogger rival; Gary continued his decent form from his Broadway race in November to avenge his rival who he lost out to in similar conditions back in June.
Regular racer in Evesham Nigel Tillott ran well over conditions that he favours.
Paul Mason lead the Mason family with Karen tackling the conditions and daughter Chloe seemingly enjoying the challenge.
Out of her comfort zone of flat and smooth tarmac, it was surprisingly to see Laura Kent ankle deep in sticky Wychavon mud. She ran well and gave Lesley Allaway company – though Lesley likes a challenge, she really had to work hard to stay with Laura.
