Snowdonia
The 2016 edition of the Snowdonia marathon was held in the best Autumn weather for few years, for despite a bit of drizzle and some clouds, it was mild and still so the colours, lakes and mountains could be admired at their most splendid best in the usual atmospheric day out in the stunning scenery of the Welsh mountains.
Four Tewkesbury Running Club team mates took part - Angie Sadler, who was not only having her first run since completing the Cotswold Way 103m race a month ago and then suffering a nasty cycling accident which left her unable to run without significant pain until literally a few days before the race, and yet still had the fitness and class to finish 5th FV55 in 4hrs 15mins and to celebrate completing her 150th marathon, Paul Mason and Teresa Roberts who finished close together in 4.45 and 4.46 respectively, to all three buttress-up the more sedate 5.30 from Phillip Howells, who nevertheless had one his best runs of the year. For the last few tough miles at the end he ran like a ‘gazelle’ with no idea of where that came from, but according to the results passing something like 50 runners in the last 3 miles which he covered only 2 minutes slower than Angie. For a brief time he felt almost like his old real running self; a rare experience these days sadly!
