Jude's 10km PB goes South

Whilst most of Tewkesbury Running Club were battling it out at the Croome Canter to see who would take the final places in the King and Queen of the Road series, I was forced to vacate my place for the Croome 10K to carry out a son’s duties and visit my parents on the South coast. However, not to be thwarted I managed a place on the Southampton Common 10K, which just happened to be on the same day. The Common was bathed in beautiful sunshine but this was tempered by a strong northerly breeze that encouraged the organisers not to allow the runners to hang around. That might explain why over 300 entered and only 220 actually turned up to run. A typical example of a student city if you ask me!

A lovely scenic course all on tarmac footpaths allowed for some good times to be achieved despite the strong wind being in your face on the uphill stretches. A time of 47.12 minutes was officially achieved and that was really pleasing, as that was a personal best, knocking 01.56 minutes off the last PB achieved at the Bourton 10K in 2012. All in all a good morning’s work before a full roast lunch and then back for the Tewkesbury RC AGM. Saints (Southampton) FC even picked up 3 points at home against Everton. Christmas obviously came early.
