Scenic Six

The ever-popular charity event, the Scenic Six proved to be a success for St. Richards’s Hospice yet again. Taking in a healthy record 270 entry field and a grand sale of post-race refreshments, tasty rolls and sweet cakes, the South Worcestershire village of Peopleton was the scene of some good performances by the Tewkesbury runners!

It was just a matter of time before Paul Douglas would lead the club home. Paul’s time of 42 minutes and 17 seconds gave him 6th place overall after a rural six miles.

Alex Vincent claimed a top 10 slot less than 2 minutes behind Paul but for Alec (now V50), it was a category 1st that he would have celebrated only to miss out by seconds!

With a 90 second cushion from Nigel Tillott, Alec was found wanting on the notorious final 500 meters across the ridge & furrow sheep pastures. Maybe Alec had burnt too much fuel trailing Paul early on? Nigel though was carrying a few niggles.

Elaine Vincent led the girls home for Tewkesbury; managing to keep upright this year and not cover herself with fragrant sheep poo, Elaine was first home from a quartet of girls including the returning Caroline Corbett.

She crossed the line ahead of fellow triathlete Jo Chandler, who recorded her first club points in the Off-Road series.

Karen Mason made her regular appearance over the Peopleton fields and fared well after losing some training time at the beginning of the year.

Paul Mason sprung around the deceivingly testing 2-lap course under 50 minutes and 3 minutes ahead of Paul Booth.

Alas Mr M, was disappointed as his time was down on 2017 when he actually ran to the venue first!

Mr B was in Elaine’s sights so he never had much time adsorb the surrounding countryside although Paul has tracked the course a few times for Tewkesbury now.
