End Of July Round-Up

Lesley Allaway has been a regular racer recently over the 10K distance, having performed well at Draycote, Glastonbury Round The Tor, Worcester Pitchcroft and Gloucester 10Ks. However all these were in preparation as Lesley stepped up on her endurance training and tackled her 1st half marathon in 3 years.

Starting and finishing from the local football club, Frome Half Marathon is well known as being more than an ‘undulating’ course with over 800ft of climbing over 3 separate hill ranges. Lesley however stuck to the daunting task well and emerged to cross the finishing line in 2hrs 29min 11secs - a highly creditable performance by Lesley.

Vicky Earls fresh from her surprising performance at the previous week’s Blaisdon 10K, proudly flew the flag for Tewkesbury Running Club as she travelled to her native Southern Ireland to compete in the highly popular, 2500 + runner, South Dublin 10K on the 21st of July.

Taking a less pressurised approach to training seems to be working a treat for Vicky as a hard fought Blaisdon run was matched by her performance in Dublin. Crossing the line in 58mins 30 secs, Vicky was shocked to see her time, with it being only 28 seconds away from her PB! Perhaps knowing that her father was also racing and was only 30 seconds behind, Vicky had an extra impetus!

Also on the 21st of July, Shona Crombie-Hicks and James Head were late entrants to The Wild One in Worcester. Primarily being an off road multiple lap marathon, there is also an option of a ‘Pairs’ race or a ‘Team of Five’ for those not wanting to do the full 26.2 mile course.

Racing with the lead solo marathoner for the 1st half marathon, Shona Crombie-Hicks, the first of the ‘Tewkesbury Speedsters’, cruised around the first 5 laps as she posted 1hr 30mins 56secs for her Half Marathon. Shona then passed the baton onto James Head who posted remarkably consistent lap times (all within 3 seconds of other) as he finished with a half marathon time of 1hr 30mins 3secs.

The pair of Tewkesbury runners times gave a combined marathon time of 3hrs 0mins 59secs. This meant James and Shona had comfortably won the Pairs competition by over 8 minutes.
