Staverton 10 Mile Race Report
Perfect conditions for running allowed 13 members of Tewkesbury Running Club to flourish at this mornings Staverton 10 mile race. Expertly organised by CLC striders the event had over 200 finishers who completed 2 laps around the outer perimeter of Staverton airfield.
The start of the first lap was cold and required gloves and bobble hats, however layers were quickly discarded as the sun came out and sunglasses were then in demand.
The organisers obviously rated David Aguirre highly and gave him the Race Number 1, which Dave took great delight in pointing out to anyone on the course with a camera, by running with his finger permanently up.
Onto the run and the fast, flat route allowed for some great times with many PB's falling.
First home for the club was our Jolly Jogger turned Elite athlete Chris Nicholls who came in with an outstanding time of 1.06.53 giving him a top 40 finish. I don't suppose many of those other runners in the top 40 prepared for the run by sprinting around their local Park Run the day before, but it seems to be working nicely for Chris. Bravo Sir.
Next in and returning to form nicely was Stuart Holyoak in 1.22.36, followed by David Aguirre in 1.26.45, Mungo Park in 1.28.04, and Craig Prosser in 1.28..09, Next in was Sheena Druggan Moseley in a PB of 1.32.46, smashing 4 minutes off her previous best time. Running in her slip stream was Cameron Pay in 1.33.12, followed by Laura Kent in 1.38.12, Emma Haworth-Smith in 1.41.49, Sam Robinson and Tom Lee in 1.43.07, followed by Pete Davies who finished in a respectable 1.47.08, despite a back injury causing him to run/walk.
Many thanks for the support on the course from Dean Hodges, Simon Crilley, Linzi Dyer, Mike Ward and Emma's Mum and Dad. Special thanks for Amanda Martin who despite not being able to finish the race, still managed to provide some delicious homemade cake and brownies for our runners at the finish.
Well done everyone. A great days running and a pleasure to be part of this great running club.
